2009 In Review

Happy New Year to you and yours!

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Sewed myself a purse.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Not really. I don't do so well with resolutions.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nephew Pete and his wife Laura had Anabelle, nephew Kevin and his wife Lauren had Claire, lots of new babies at church, and about eighty of my friends are currently pregnant.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My Grammy, and my sister-in-law Teresa

5. What places did you visit?
Holland, MI
Portland, OR
Amish Country, IL
Scottsdale, AZ

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Self-discipline!*

7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 19th, the day Teresa was murdered.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finishing our first year of Seminary!

9. What was your biggest failure?
Discipline in the areas of healthy eating, exercise, spending and house-cleaning. (No colossal failures, but put together it all paints a very undisciplined, unsustainable picture.)

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No injuries, I did have strep throat this year and it was pretty freaking awful.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmmm, either my Dansko clogs or my Samsung cell phone.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My husband's family, who endured a tragedy, not perfectly, but with incredible grace and love and even some joy. God gets the credit for providing the grace.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I could go on and on about the behavior we all see on TV and in the media, but I don't care to sit and point the finger. So, besides such obvious targets, I will say that I am continually appalled at the way some people drive.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food, gas, bills.*

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Various trips, and the pregnancy of friends Currie and Abby.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
"Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" - not necessarily my favorite song of the year, but its so catchy and ubiquitous, and IMMA LET YOU FINISH, but it was the best video of, like, all time.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
same
b) thinner or fatter?
same
c) richer or poorer?
same

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Laughing, exercising, crafting, sleeping*

Eating junk food, wasting time, worrying*

Several parties with family and friends

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Not newly, but I am always falling more in love with my husband. And my kitteh.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
My favorite show that was new (to me) is Arrested Development. 30 Rock a close second. And I still love LOST.

Nope. I don't hate people.*

Comfortable, blacks/grays/blues/browns, cardigans

32. What kept you sane?
Little escapes into books, blogs, movies, and time with my husband

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't really dwell on such things, honestly.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
I don't think I got especially stirred up this year. Probably health care was the one issue I talked about most.

35. Who did you miss?
Friends who live out of town, My Grammy

36. Who was the best new person you met?
This is a strange question, but maybe our new friends Josh and Michelle? I don't know.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
Nothing in life will ever be neat, clean or easily sorted and solved.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"This is what it means to be held;
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was that when everything fell
We'd be held" (Held by Natalie Grant)
*Answers that are the same as last year.

I like # 1 (for obvious reasons), COMPLETELY identify with #6 (I think it's my New Year's resolution every single year) and was very touched by #15.

Happy 2010!
Love you!
